Hitting the Longs peak trail

We slung our backpacks tight, double checked the hanging gear attached to our carabiners, started my watch mileage tracker, and hit the trail!

From the start of the hike to the end, we would gain 750 feet in altitude with a fairly decent and rocky incline the entire way. Because this was our first time and we were in the dark, we took a lot of stops to catch our breath and check the map. Ranger Margaret said we would hit a fork in the trail less than half way through and continue going straight. When we were near the site, we would see a sign with the name of the site, and a red and silver arrowhead on trees. But the whole trail in between those signs were unmarked and we had to trust we were going the right way in the pitch-black night!
